In my view, the attitude of Canadian governments towards climate change is intolerable. They refuse to listen to Scientists around the world who state that climate change has obviously affected the world and are predicting terrible effects to the population in the near future. The population’s health is seriously affected by climate change since floods are happening more frequently which puts lives in danger of injuries or death. Another problem that humans are facing is Heatwave's which usually results in humans having the following symptoms: nausea, dizziness, headaches and fainting. Other serious health ramifications of climate change include: heat exhaustions, sunstroke and organ damage. Not only is this a huge concern for humans but it also risks natural wildlife. Climate change is already happening and if Canadian citizens and the Canadian government don’t take this issue seriously, the things we depend on such as land, water and food will no longer be available for our survival in the future.

b) Who are the characters / symbols / identities in the political cartoon?
The character in the blue suit is a politician. The other 3 characters with cameras are representatives of the media. One of the important symbols in this political cartoon is the date that states “Earth day, 2035” because it shows the amount of pollution our country will have in the future. The other important symbol would be the big bulletin board that shows a picture of a clean environment with full grown, healthy-looking trees. This symbol is important because the politician in the picture is deceiving society by displaying a fake representation of our world to the media which tricks people into thinking our environment is clean and unpolluted. The reality of the situation is what is hidden behind the picture. c) What is the message / meaning of the cartoon? The message of this political cartoon is the media isn’t always right. We only see what the media shows. According to the political cartoon, the truth is that our Earth in the future will be very polluted, toxic and hard to live in. The media only shows a picture of a clean, good-living environment but behind that picture is the reality. The reality is the environment is a polluted area. This is dangerous because if they don’t tell us the truth about how our world is, then we will keep living the world like we are and end up dying from the toxic fumes and unstable environment. Overall, I think that the political cartoon is emphasizing that you shouldn’t base all your opinions on an issue until you get all the facts. Getting all the facts involves not just relying on the media. a) Article 1: http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20140502-what-if-bees-went-extinct
Article 2: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/why-is-canadas-bee-population-so-drastically-in-decline/article19735416/ In the first article it talks about what would happen if bees were extinct. The articles are pretty much the same as in topic wise but article 1 doesn’t have as much information as article 2. In Article 2 the author used more information and also had more detail, but some of the information did not add up to some of my research I looked at during my process in making my Blog it. The titles aren’t the same but the information is related in some standards like the amount of bees a year and when bee’s are going to be extinct. Overall these articles are very well done and the author did a good job on writing them. The issue was reported fairly well, but both articles had left out important information like how this will impact humans with a long term effect. 1) Should there be a law passed to force our government to reveal the truth and all facts about world's climate change?
This photo is reflective of the article because the article talks about the distinction of bees and you can see in this picture that the beekeeper, Davis Bryans with a decrease amount of beehives. ARTICLE LINK: http://globalnews.ca/news/1546097/silence-of-the-bees-it-has-to-stop-it-just-has-to-stop/ NEWSPAPER: Silence of the bees: ‘It has to stop. It just has to stop.’ DATE: September 12th, 2014 SYNOPSIS: The problem is that the beekeepers are struggling to keep their bees alive. In this article the beekeepers are arguing about the reasons why there is a decline in the bee production. The beekeepers strongly believe that pesticides and poisons are the cause of the bee decline. Others argue that the reason for the bee decline is due to the harsh winters. I believe that the article is written to raise awareness about the bee decline in favour of the beekeepers beliefs, being pesticides are the leading cause. This issue is very important because life without bees can put humans and animals into danger. Bees help pollinate our fruits, plants, and vegetables. Furthermore, without bees pollinating any of the foods that we depend on, we can no longer survive as well as animals due to starvation. REFLECTIVE QUESTION: Should any laws be put in place to prevent the distribution of pesticides to help save our bees? ARTICLE LINK: http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2014/10/01/climate_change_is_threatening_our_health.html NEWSPAPER: ‘Climate change is threatening our health’ DATE: Oct 1st, 2014 SYNOPSIS: The main topic in this article is that climate change is a risk to our health. This is because floods are destroying and weakening our crops and putting humans in danger (major injuries). Heatwaves are another problem that humans are facing, especially elderly people. Scientists are trying their best to improve our knowledge of climate change and how it affects us. The root cause of climate change is pollutant in the air (carbon) because of our great use of fossil fuels. If the government and the media kept emphasising more that it’s bad to use fossil fuels and good to use more solar energy maybe we could stop the climate from changing so drastically. REFLECTIVE QUESTION: Do you think that if the government and media kept addressing the issue about climate change and how bad fossil fuel is, would our society take the action into investing solar energy to help prevent climate from changing so drastically? ARTICLE 4 LINK: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/news/tornado-hit-sheffield-ont-on-monday-environment-canada-confirms-1.2792293 NEWSPAPER: ‘Tornado hit Sheffield, Ont., on Monday, Environment Canada confirms’ DATE: October 8th, 2014 SYNOPSIS: The Environment of Canada was proving that a Tornado was hit in Ontario. They inspected it was a Tornado since there was a lot of damage taken place. They investigated and said homes were damaged, downed trees and branches and there was lots of unknown material flying in the air. The article does try to persuade the readers to take a side since it only talks about reasons why it was a Tornado. This issue is important because Tornadoes are very dangerous if you aren’t kept in a safe place to stay because it can risk our lives as Canadian Citizens. REFLECTIVE QUESTION: Should the government of Canada invest in a program to help humans get prepared for Tornadoes?
